Position Overview
The Heersink School of Medicine, Department of Surgery is recruiting faculty candidates for an open‑rank, non‑tenure or tenure‑track appointment in the Division of Gastrointestinal Surgery.
The successful candidate will be a fellowship‑trained colon and rectal surgeon with an interest in academic surgery, expected to meet clinical, research, and teaching needs in the Department of Surgery.
- Provide patient care focused on colorectal diseases including colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, diverticular disease, anorectal disorders, endoscopy, and other colorectal pathologies.
- Participate in the support of general surgery practice at several rural hospitals in Alabama.
- Engage in basic and clinical research, maintaining a track record of independent funding (e.g., NIH).
- Teach and develop curriculum for health professionals within the Department.
- M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. required.
- Outstanding leadership and clinical expertise recognized in the field of colorectal surgery.
- Strong track record of independent research, teaching, and service.
- Substantial professional work experience in one or more areas of research, teaching, and/or service.
