Description
The Box Office Manager is responsible for ticket sales, patron transactions, and technical operations during performances and events. This role ensures ticketing accuracy, provides excellent customer service, and supports front-of-house operations. Staff also maintain weekly scheduled box office hours and provide ticketing services for all events as assigned. Box Office Managers may be asked to assist with additional tasks, as needed, to support theatre operations, customer service, audience experience, pre- and post-show activities, and the safety and security of guests and staff.
Job Duties
- Administer all incoming phone calls and create ticket orders, providing patrons with information on event schedules, pricing, and availability.
- Manage ticket sales, will-call, complimentary tickets, and patron inquiries during events.
- Monitor and process all ticket orders via phone and email.
- Occasionally monitor credit transactions for the box office and ensure accurate processing.
- Monitor and respond to customer inquiries, complaints, and requests, ensuring timely resolution.
- Create, maintain, and organize event-related documents, reports, and spreadsheets.
- Communicate with House Managers during events regarding seating, late arrivals, and audience flow.
- Submit post-event reports documenting ticketing activity, issues, and relevant notes.
- Maintain positive relationships with patrons, artists, and campus colleagues.
- Attend pre-event meetings and training sessions as required.
- Perform other duties as required to support event operations and front-of-house services.
- Maintain weekly scheduled box office hours as assigned and cover ticketing duties for scheduled events.
- Anticipate patron needs and resolve ticketing or operational issues with minimal supervision.
- Make informed decisions independently while adhering to policies and procedures.
- Represent Samford University professionally and with discretion in all interactions.
- Demonstrate effective leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Be punctual, reliable, and able to work in fast-paced, busy environments.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Valid, current driver's license.
- Experience with ticketing software, computer systems, and administrative work.
- Proficient in use of two-way radios.
- Strong attention to detail and professional communication skills.
- Ability to read small print, such as on tickets.
- Availability for weekly scheduled box office hours, evenings, weekends, and holidays as assigned.
- Ability to walk stairs and access balcony areas as needed.
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
- Ability to lift and move up to 10 pounds and assist with setup of furniture for events as directed.
- Work in environmental conditions such as noise, flashing or dim lighting, and heights.
- Communicate effectively in English.
- Bachelor's degree in Theatre, Performing Arts, Business, or related field preferred.
- CPR and First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain.
