Year-Round Accounting Business Student Unit

We have a job opening for the position of Accountant Business Unit Student Unit (Year‑Round) at Palmetto GBA, a subsidiary of Blue Cross Blue Shield of South Carolina. The internship is for training a high‑school or college student toward an entry‑level role. The responsibilities will vary based on area needs and incumbent experience. The incumbent will work under direct supervision and perform entry‑level tasks while learning professional‑level tasks related to area operations.

Location

This is a part‑time internship (20–24 hours/week) Monday–Friday (flexible schedule), working on‑site at 3700 Colonnade Parkway, Suite 240, Birmingham, AL 35243 in an office environment.

What You’ll Do
  • Participate in business unit/department training designed to build applicable knowledge/skills in the area of study.
  • Complete area tasks that help learn departmental procedures and apply industry/field best practices; communicate with other areas of the company; conduct research and analysis of various reports (monthly, quarterly, annually).
  • Perform tasks that help learn the business area and provide an overall view of company operations; assist other staff members with everyday tasks to gain an understanding of business operations and workflow.
  • Complete other assigned area‑related tasks; identify areas of need improvement and communicate to management.
To Qualify For This Position, You'll Need The Following
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 12 semester hours earned in the specified field(s) and currently enrolled in college working toward a 4‑year degree in the field(s); upload unofficial transcripts with resume.
  • No prior work experience required.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; strong organizational skills and attention to detail; analytical or critical thinking skills; ability to handle confidential or sensitive information with discretion; good planning and multi‑tasking skills; strong listening skills and ability to follow directions and ask questions.
  • Microsoft Office.

  • 1 year general work history/experience.
  • Accounting major.
