Position Summary
The Staff Accountant plays a key role in supporting the monthly close process and maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the Company’s financial records. This position is responsible for maintaining account schedules, preparing monthly journal entries, recording daily bank transactions for two entities, and supporting continuous process improvement initiatives.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, process-driven, and comfortable working in a regulated utility environment. Knowledge of regulatory accounting and the NARUC chart of accounts is a plus. Depending on qualifications and experience, this role may be filled at the Senior Accountant level.
Key Responsibilities Month-End Close & General Accounting- Maintain and reconcile general ledger account schedules
- Prepare and post monthly journal entries
- Assist in the preparation and review of month-end close documentationli>
- Ensure compliance with internal controls and accounting policies
- Support regulatory accounting requirements as applicable
- The position will also perform intercompany reconciliations and entries as well as expense allocations.
- Record and reconcile daily bank transactions for two entities
- Prepare bank reconciliations
- Process deposits using remote deposit capture
- Assist with the payables process as needed
- Review invoices for accuracy and proper coding
- Support vendor maintenance and payment processing
- Assist with conversion, maintenance, and optimization of accounting records in Microsoft Business Central
- Develop and document accounting process narratives
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and internal controls
- Support reporting enhancements using tools such as Power BI
- Collaborate cross-functionally to improve data accuracy and reporting capabilities
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
- 2+ years of accounting experience preferred (utility or regulated industry experience a plus)
- Knowledge of regulatory accounting principles preferred
- Familiarity with NARUC chart of accounts is a plus
- Experience with ERP systems (Microsoft Business Central preferred)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Experience with Power BI or similar reporting tools preferred
- Strong understanding of general ledger accounting and reconciliations
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to meet deadlines in a structured month-end environment
- Analytical mindset with a focus on process improvement
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with a team
Candidates with significant month-end close experience, regulatory accounting knowledge, advanced ERP implementation experience, and demonstrated leadership in process improvement initiatives may be considered for a Senior Accountant title and corresponding responsibilities.
