Join to apply for the Rotational Occupational Therapist role at Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

A opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic Occupational Therapist (Band
5) which would suit a student working towards HCPC registration. You would join our Therapy Team at Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (WUTH) in a rotational post, although the fixed term would be based in one team for the duration (orthopaedics or unplanned care). Rotations include Department of Medicine for the Elderly, Orthopaedics (trauma and elective), Medicine, Surgery, Acute Neuro, Neuro Rehabilitation (at Clatterbridge Rehabilitation Centre), and Community discharge to assess bed‑based service.

Each team has a dedicated therapy office shared with physiotherapy and assistant colleagues to support collaborative working. The Therapies Directorate supports student training and apprenticeship roles in both Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy. New recruits are supported as preceptors by the Practice Education Facilitators and can link in with the AHP Clinical Educator.

Responsibilities
  • To communicate effectively with staff, patients, relatives and carers and other agencies regarding care and treatment in order to co‑ordinate care and to ensure effective and appropriate planning and delivery of treatment.
  • To be managed by a therapy team leader.
  • To maintain good working relationships with all other staff involved in patient care.
  • To establish a rapport with patients in order to gain their compliance with the treatment programmes.
  • To communicate effectively with patients and adapt the approach where there may be barriers to understanding (eg deaf, confusion).
  • To be a caring, responsible member of the AHP service and to take a full part in the life of the Department.

All new colleagues can expect to receive a warm and friendly Wirral welcome from the very first time they make contact with us. We are described as “competent and caring staff” by our patients.
