Overview

Maintenance Technician II - Plant Services - Full Time ition summary:
Under the direction of a Supervisor or their designees, the Maintenance Tech II performs a variety of maintenance and engineering duties including maintaining, repairing, operating, and renovating plant and facilities for the hospital.

Education, License & Cert

High school diploma or equivalent required. Licenses: A valid driver's license is not required but preferred for possible travel to various facilities.

Experience
  • Two years of trade school required, or five (5) years comparable related experience.
  • A demonstrated skill in one trade and basic understanding of other trades acquired through on‑the‑job training.
  • Must have knowledge of all applicable OSHA standards, i.e., Right‑to‑Know, Lock‑out Tag‑out, ladder safety, and other standards that may apply.
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations is required.
  • The ability to make decisions and meet deadlines is required.
  • Must be able to read, comprehend, and transmit complicated, detailed instructions in writing and orally for effective interaction with administrative, medical, and supervisory staff, patients, architects, contractors, and vendors.
Essential Functions
  • Demonstrate skill in operation of pumps, steam, hot water, compressed air, controls, medical gases, alarms, lighting, emergency power systems, plant maintenance methods, techniques, procedures, repair, building automation system and use of department equipment and supplies to ensure the comfort and safety of patients, staff and visitors.
  • Perform a variety of other semi‑skilled and skilled work in various crafts such as carpentry, plumbing, welding, painting, wall repair, flooring repair, electrical work, sheet metal work, masonry, machinist work, etc.
  • Clean, lubricate, service, repair, install, and diagnose malfunction of HVAC equipment, dietary equipment, electrical systems and other plant and specialty equipment.
  • Construct, finish, install, maintain and repair equipment, systems and facilities related to any craft or combination of same, using power and hand tools and other necessary equipment in a clean safe operating condition in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations as well as department policy.
  • Assist in making decisions on all normal and minor repairs and report major problems to the Manager or Supervisor.
  • Read blueprints and models to learn work layout and plan own work layout, making routine computations as needed and attend mandatory in‑services as required.
  • Plan installations, do layouts, fabricate, recommend material and alternate methods of installation.
  • Identify system failures and troubleshoot equipment in detail to restore to operating or contain problem. Work alone to solve problems, and when called upon, can take the lead on a given job with another Maintenance Technician.
  • Maintain logs, perform rounds, and complete preventive maintenance (PM) work orders, tests, and inspections. Make recommendations for modification or improvement of preventive maintenance systems.
  • Demonstrate cost effectiveness by proper use and care of equipment; prudent use of supplies; accurately recording labor and supply charges and appropriately utilizing available resources.
Other Duties
  • Maintain shops, mechanical spaces, patient areas, etc. in a clean, safe manner.
  • Respond to emergencies in the facility, make emergency repairs as needed and participate in weekend/holiday rotation.
  • Assist in removing snow from facilities grounds and maintain grounds as required.

Pay

Pay rate ranges from $22.08 - $34.47 per hour.
