Overview
The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for protecting, promoting, and optimizing patient health through the delivery of safe, compassionate, and evidence-based nursing care. This role includes the prevention of illness and injury, alleviation of suffering, and advocacy for patients and families. The RN practices in compliance with the New York State Nurse Practice Act, United Health Services (UHS) policies, the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, Code of Ethics for Nurses, and the Patient Bill of Rights, while fostering a caring and healing patient-centered environment.
Key Responsibilities- Assess, plan, delegate, coordinate, implement, and evaluate nursing care for assigned patients, functioning as a primary or accountable nurse as designated.
- Ensure patient safety, quality of care, and cost-effective resource utilization.
- Educate patients and families on health promotion, disease prevention, and disease management.
- Administer medications safely using sound pharmacological knowledge and in accordance with UHS policies.
- Contribute to productivity and effective use of resources, including staffing, time management, supplies, and services.
- Comply with nursing practice standards, regulatory requirements, and UHS policies and procedures.
- Participate in the Nursing Shared Governance Model, including unit council activities, quality improvement initiatives, and peer review.
- Engage in professional development, continuing education, and completion of all mandatory training.
- Integrate nursing research and evidence-based practices into clinical care.
- Support and mentor new employees and nursing students.
- Uphold and demonstrate United Health Services values.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Registered Nurse experience: 6 months to 3 years
- Management experience: 0 to 3 years
- 5+ years of direct healthcare experience
- Strong collaboration and teamwork skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Sound judgment and critical thinking abilities
- Organizational awareness and planning skills
- Time management and problem-solving abilities
- Commitment to quality, safety, reliability, and risk management
- Previous clinical nursing experience in acute care or ambulatory settings
Required:
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
Preferred:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
Required:
- Current New York State RN License
- BLS Certification (AHA, HSI, or client)
- Compliance with unit-specific requirements as outlined in the Compliance Matrix
Preferred:
- Professional certification in a nursing specialty
- Relevant specialty certifications such as ACLS, PALS, TNCC, as required by the assigned unit
