Human Resources Specialist – Adaptive Equipment
Office:
New York State Office for People With Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD).
Location:
Binghamton, NY.
Base: $53,764/yr – $68,630/yr. Pay increased based on skills and experience.
Responsibilities- Design, construct, modify, and maintain adaptive equipment for individuals (positioning devices, mobility devices, sleeping systems, seating/positioning components, safety equipment, assistive technology, environmental control systems, etc.).
- Coordinate and collaborate with treatment teams and clinical staff to assess needs, determine equipment design or modifications, and assemble equipment.
- Adapt measurement specifications to meet individual requirements.
- Construct equipment using machine‑shop tools and materials (wood, metal, thermoplastics, foams, fabrics, plexiglass, electronic components) while following safety standards.
- Collaborate with manufacturers or third‑party vendors for inspections or repairs.
- Provide training to clinical staff on proper use and maintenance of equipment; advise on environmental modifications.
- Maintain service schedules, repair and maintain equipment, and respond to emergency repair requests.
- Maintain shop workspace, update inventory records, notify supervisor of material needs, submit purchase order estimates and cost reports.
- Document completed work, maintain work logs, and submit finalized work orders.
- Two years experience designing and manufacturing adaptive equipment; or two years skilled experience in carpentry or a related trade with at least one year of designing and manufacturing adaptive equipment for individuals.
- Preference for OPWDD employees impacted by closures; eligibility for full and unconditional Medicare/Medicaid participation.
- Possible loan forgiveness under the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF).
- Employees on long‑term leave can bid on positions; must report to work within fourteen (14) days.
