Location: City of Binghamton
Therapeutic Recreation and Leisure Specialist I - Part Time
Part time: 6–29 hours per week.

Responsibilities- Plan, implement, and oversee the Recreation Respite Program and other leisure services within agency programs.
- Ensure quality opportunities for all families/participants registered for ACHIEVE’s Recreation and Leisure Services.
- Implement and facilitate scheduled recreation activities and spontaneous programs.
- Foster independent leisure pursuits of participants by providing necessary tools and supplies.
- Maintain and properly store recreation equipment and supplies.
- Facilitate recreation and leisure activities with participants.
- Transport participants to recreation and leisure activities as needed.
- Strive to meet the American Therapeutic Recreation (ATRA) Standards of Practice.
- Provide supervision and direct care responsibilities for program participants.
- Address and report incidents, accidents, or any circumstances that adversely impact the health and safety of individuals receiving services.
- Follow department and facility policies and procedures to meet the cognitive, physical, psychological/emotional, social, and spiritual needs of participants.
- Cooperate with the Director of Therapeutic Recreation and Leisure Services and other specialists to achieve program goals.
- Maintain positive relationships with all departments, parents, staff, individuals receiving services, and community partners.
- Communicate health, safety, program concerns, sensitive situations, and incidents to supervisor.
- Complete required documentation and perform reviews to maintain records in conformance with policies and billing practices.
- Obtain and maintain required training certifications (First Aid, CPR, etc.).
- Attend required training, staff development programs, committees, and meetings as required by the agency or state/federal regulation.
- Good interpersonal, written, oral, and communication abilities; effective time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to work scheduled hours, including overtime, weekend and/or holiday time frames, and maintain acceptable work attendance.
- Computer literate with knowledge of agency operating systems and applicable software.
- Demonstrate sound judgment in normal work and emergency situations.
- Physically able to perform required certifications and lift fifty (50) pounds.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Experience working with individuals who have functional differences preferred, but not required.
- A valid driver’s license and a driving record that meets the agency’s insurance carrier guidelines.
