Overview
Technical Manager-HV Substations. Lead the delivery of high-impact HV substation engineering that powers the future of energy. As the Technical Manager-HV Substations, you will serve as Fisher’s senior technical authority for HV substation design and engineering, including transmission interconnections, collector switchyards, POI substations, and generator tie systems for renewable and conventional energy clients.
What You’ll DoLead the delivery of HV substation engineering (69 kV–345 kV+) for transmission, interconnection, and utility projects. Serve as senior technical authority for HV substation design and engineering. Oversee QA/QC for drawings, calculations, studies, and IFC packages. Design and review substation layouts, electrical schematics, grounding, conduit routing, lightning protection, and protection & control interfaces. Perform and review power system studies including load flow, short circuit, grounding, protection coordination, arc flash, insulation coordination, voltage drop, and ampacity.
Ensure compliance with NEC, NESC, IEEE, ANSI, NFPA, NERC, utility standards, and permitting requirements. Interface with utilities and ISOs on interconnection requirements, SCADA/telecom integration, protection philosophies, energization, and commissioning. Mentor and train engineers and designers, ensuring technical accuracy and quality deliverables. Support proposal development with scopes, assumptions, and cost estimates. Support construction and field engineering, including site visits and as-built documentation.
Drive process improvements, standards development, and adoption of new tools and technologies.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
- 15+ years of substation engineering design experience
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required
- Experience with renewable power plants, EPC projects, and utility-scale infrastructure preferred
- Strong background in renewable interconnection, transmission, and utility coordination
- Expertise in power system studies, including short circuit, load flow, grounding, protection coordination, arc flash, cable sizing/ampacity, trenching/cabling, equipment sizing, and lightning studies
- Ability to develop and interpret SLDs, 3-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, schematics, and substation layouts
- Proficient in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ETAP, SKM, CYMCAP
- Strong knowledge of IEEE, NESC, NEC, NFPA, ANSI, NERC

Salary Range: $110,000-$175,000 annually. Actual compensation may vary based on relevant experience, qualifications/education, and other factors. The salary range is not necessarily reflective of the actual total compensation that may be earned nor promises any specific pay for any specific employee. Salary range excludes monetary value of benefits.
