Job Description

The Department of Physics at Binghamton invites applications for a tenure‑track position as a Simons Empire Faculty Fellow to begin in Fall 2026 at the rank of Assistant Professor. We seek an outstanding candidate in experimental condensed matter physics, with an emphasis on quantum transport, spectroscopy, and/or nanofabrication of quantum materials.

Successful candidates are expected to have an outstanding research record, establish an independent research program, and make effective contributions to the Physics undergraduate and graduate teaching programs.

This position is part of a prestigious four‑faculty Simons Empire Faculty Fellowship cluster hire, comprising two experimental physics positions and two mathematics positions. The cluster is designed to foster collaborative research at the intersection of quantum science and the mathematical foundations of artificial intelligence, directly advancing the Simons Foundation’s mission to push the frontiers of mathematics and basic sciences through interdisciplinary collaboration.

Fellows will receive dedicated startup support from the Simons Foundation.

The start date for the position is August 17, 2026.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Physics, or a closely related field by August 17, 2026
Preferred Qualifications
  • Postdoctoral experience in Physics, or a closely related field
