Job Description

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in the Thomas J. Watson College of Engineering and Applied Science at Binghamton University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of assistant professor to begin in fall of 2026. Individuals with an established record of obtaining competitive research funding and a history of scholarly excellence will be considered for appointment at the Associate Professor rank.

The department will consider exceptional candidates in the broad area of energy storage, including but not limited to

  • Electrochemical energy storage (batteries, supercapacitors, solid-state systems)
  • Novel electrode and electrolyte materials for batteries (solid-state, Li-metal, Na-ion, multivalent, or beyond Li-ion systems)
  • Thin film, nanostructured, or hybrid materials for high-performance storage
  • Sustainable materials, recycling, and lifecycle analysis for energy storage
  • Computational materials design and data-driven discovery of storage materials
  • Modeling, control, and management of energy storage systems

The successful applicant will be expected to establish and sustain an externally funded research program and have a commitment to excellence in teaching at the BS, MS, and PhD levels.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or closely related field by September 1, 2026
  • Published several journal papers in a related field
  • Developed or been part of a research program in the energy storage field
