Job Description

Title:

Instructional Support Assistant (SL‑1)

This role delivers exemplary direct customer service at library service points and supports a team environment. Responsibilities include technology checkout, course reserves, reservable rooms, shelving and paging of materials, and serving as a resource for student assistants.

Primary hours cover nights and weekends at Bartle and Science Libraries (up to 18.5 hours per week). Deployment to Downtown Center may occur during staffing shortages. The position is temporary, ending May 15, 2026.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • May serve as building opener and/or closer.
  • Provide direct customer service; during low activity periods, complete related tasks at the service point.
  • Offer directional assistance, make referrals, and assist with basic resource access (phone, email, Lib Answers).
  • Perform circulation services (check in/out, course reserves, shelving, paging).
  • Support technology checkout, basic troubleshooting, room/equipment reservations, patron accounts, and shelving/paging.
  • Retrieve items for the Hold Shelf or Interlibrary Loan and place them in designated locations daily.
  • Assist with opening/closing procedures, tidy spaces/shelves, report facility concerns, and facilitate lost and found items.
  • Serve as a resource for student assistants and complete departmental tasks.
  • Contribute to a positive library experience and a collaborative team environment.
  • Participate in a work culture that promotes diversity and anti‑racism and actively work to eliminate systemic bias.
Required Qualifications
  • Customer service experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree.
  • Experience working in a library.
