About the Program

The First‑Year Research Immersion (FRI) program invites a Research Educator to launch a new research stream titled Artificial Intelligence and Society
. The position combines teaching and research to develop faculty as research educators, leaders, mentors, and higher education professionals. The stream will investigate topics such as AI for social challenges, ethical implications of AI, economic impacts of AI integration, bias mitigation, and governance and policy influences on AI deployment. The Research Educator will guide first‑ and second‑year student cohorts (~30 per cohort) through authentic research experiences, help students develop professional skills, and maintain/develop their own research program.

A promotion pathway is available despite the non‑tenure track status.

Responsibilities
  • Teaching & Mentorship
    • Serve as instructor for FRI courses (Fall: Semester 1 & 3; Spring: Semester 2)
    • Continuously develop, maintain, and revise stream curriculum
    • Supervise, train, and manage undergraduate peer mentors (UGPMs)
  • Research
    • Maintain research lab and budget
    • Perform research in conjunction with stream students
    • Collaborate with faculty and collaborators on research projects
    • Disseminate results
  • Service
    • Participate in FRI program events and committees
    • Support students in continuing efforts and activities after the FRI experience
  • General
    • Attend and actively participate in FRI faculty/staff meetings
    • Facilitate formative and summative assessments of the research stream and FRI students
  • Professional Development
    • Actively participate in research and educational professional development activities
Requirements
  • Ph.D. in a discipline matching the research stream theme by August 18, 2026.
  • Demonstrated expertise in one or more disciplines aligned with the theme.
  • Advanced experimental design and technical skills aligned with the research stream.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple responsibilities and timelines simultaneously.
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively.
  • Effective professional and organizational skills.
  • Problem‑solving, prioritization, and task management abilities.
  • Ability to analyze and organize information and materials for diverse research projects.
Preferred
  • Minimum of two years of teaching experience in higher education (including teaching assistant roles).
  • Experience mentoring undergraduate researchers.
  • Experience supervising undergraduate and/or graduate teaching assistants.
  • Experience managing a research laboratory (physical space with equipment used by multiple people).
