Job Description Position SummaryBinghamton University is seeking a Lecturer to join the Theatre Department in the fields of dance studies and dance history. This is a full‑time position with a 3/3 teaching load.
Key ResponsibilitiesTeaching is the primary focus of this position. Teaching responsibilities may include introductory and advanced dance history courses, specialized topical classes, introductory theatre or musical theatre history, dance practice courses (e.g., modern dance), wellness practices like "Yoga for Performers," and additional offerings aligned with the candidate's area of expertise.
The successful candidate will teach a range of courses that support the Theatre Department's core curriculum and electives, spanning dance history, theory, practice, and wellness. They will also have the opportunity to develop courses that reflect their own scholarly and artistic expertise, enriching the department's diverse offerings. We are especially interested in candidates who can engage students through inclusive, culturally responsive, and interdisciplinary teaching.
While this position is focused on teaching, fluency in the contemporary field of dance studies is required, and an active research profile is especially welcome.
The successful candidate will undertake service on department committees.
RequirementsRequired Qualifications
- Ph.D. in dance studies or closely related field by August 17, 2026
- Minimum of three years of experience teaching dance
- Experience teaching dance theory/history courses
- Experience teaching dance movement classes
- Record of academic publications
- Experience in curriculum development in dance
