Position
Job DescriptionThe Philosophy Department at Binghamton University, State University of New York, is seeking applicants for a tenure‑track Assistant Professor position with a research specialization in some area of Continental Philosophy, understood broadly to encompass historical and contemporary traditions.
- Complement the department’s existing strengths and play an active role in the department’s graduate program in Social, Political, Ethical, and Legal Philosophy (SPEL).
- Teach graduate and undergraduate courses, supervise teaching assistants, serve on thesis and dissertation committees, and direct graduate‑level work.
- Actively participate in department colloquia and other programming.
- Maintain a teaching load of 2/2 and regularly teach undergraduate classes that support Binghamton University’s large Philosophy, Politics, and Law major.
- Contribute to the philosophical breadth of course offerings.
- Demonstrate teaching effectiveness and contribute to instruction quality.
- Ph.D. in Philosophy, or closely related field, by August 17, 2026.
- Specialization in an area of Continental Philosophy.
- Understanding of historical traditions in Continental Philosophy.
- Understanding of contemporary approaches in Continental Philosophy.
- Ability to teach graduate‑level Philosophy classes in area of expertise.
- Experience teaching undergraduate classes, either as a teaching assistant or as an instructor.
