Job Description

The Department of Asian and Asian American Studies in the Harpur College of Arts and Sciences at Binghamton University (SUNY) invites applications for a tenure‑track position in Korea/Diaspora Studies at the rank of Assistant Professor. We seek candidates with expertise in the humanities who employ critical and interdisciplinary approaches to હજાર the study of Korean cultural forms, expression, and/or practices, broadly defined, as they circulate and relate to national, diasporic, or emergent communities.

We are particularly interested in scholars who explore media forms and representation – such as literature, film, food, music, and digital communication – in relation to social, political, and economic change: migration, race, and gender formation. Also welcome is experience in the digital humanities and community engagement, which align with department and campus initiatives. Applicants should demonstrate proficiency in ઘર(language(s) relevant to their research NULL).

The ability to promote and develop the department's broader intellectual and programmatic vision of transregional, transoceanic, and global studies of Asia is preferred. The candidate is expected to teach at the undergraduate and graduate level, and contribute to the vibrancy of the faculty and student community within and beyond the department.

Requirements Required
  • A PhD in a relevant humanities or cultural studies field by August 1, 2026.
  • Scholarship demonstrates critical and interdisciplinary approaches to Korean/diasporic cultural forms, expressions, and practices.
  • Proficiency in language(s) relevant to their research.
  • Teaching experience at the college level.
Preferred
  • Scholarly exploration of media forms and representation in relation to social, political, and economic change.
  • Demonstrated vision of transregional and/or global study of Asia.
  • Experience with digital humanities.
  • Experience with community engagement.
