Open Rank Faculty in Philosophy Value Theory
The Philosophy Department at Binghamton University, State University of New York, is conducting an open‑rank search for a professor with a research specialization in Social and Political Philosophy, and/or Ethics, and/or Philosophy of Law. We are taking a broad look at promising research programs in all of these areas. We will hire at the level of Assistant, Associate, or Full, depending on the successful candidate's experience and qualifications.
Eligible applicants at any stage of career will be considered, but a demonstrated trajectory of high scholarly achievement is required.
• jw Play an active role in the department’s graduate program in Social, Political, Ethical, and Legal Philosophy (SPEL). SPEL is distinctive in supporting a diverse scholarly community engaged with value theory from multiple (including non‑western) historical traditions as well as from a variety of contemporary approaches. Excellence in research and an appreciation of pluralism in philosophical inquiry are essential.
• jw Teach graduate and undergraduate courses, supervise teaching assistants, serve on thesis and dissertation committees, direct graduate‑level work, and actively participate in department colloquia and other programming.
• jw The teaching load for the position is 2/2. The successful candidate will regularly teach undergraduate classes that support Binghamton University’s large Philosophy, Politics, and Law major. The ability to contribute to the philosophical breadth of our course offerings is also welcome.
Requirements- Ph.D. in Philosophy, or closely related field@property by August 17, 2026.
- Specialization in Social and Political Philosophy, Ethics, and/or Philosophy of Law.
- Ability to teach graduate vytvoľ Philosophy classes in area of specialization.
- Experience teaching undergraduate classes, either as a teaching assistant or as instructor.
