Instructional Support Associate (SL-2)
Salary: $51,261 – $61,261 (commensurate with experience)
The Binghamton University Libraries provides research collections in electronic (over 2 million) and print (1.7 million) formats with an extensive array of databases and e‑packages (over 400), archival and distinctive printed materials in Special Collections as well as services with a variety of student‑centered study spaces. With three public locations (Glenn G. Bartle Library, Science Library and the University Downtown Center Library) and an off‑site Collections Management Facility (CMF), our aim is to provide access to primary research materials and resources befitting an R1 research institution.
The Support Associate for Storage and Delivery Services is responsible for contributing to the successful delivery of library services, such as, but not limited to, accessioning/deaccessioning materials at the CMF, borrowing and lending of materials, copyright review, inventory of physical materials, physical collection relocation/shifting projects, scanning and digital delivery of materials. They may serve formally as student supervisors, but more likely serve as a resource for student assistants, who provide supplemental support in completing departmental tasks.
The position reports to the Assistant Director for Storage and Delivery Services.
Duties and Responsibilities- Prioritizes borrowing and document delivery and moves to lending as time allows.
- Directly processes interlibrary loan borrowing requests (verifies request citations; searches Libraries' databases, and other bibliographic utilities). Searches for and processes returnable and non‑returnable items. Ensures that the material is supplied or cancelled if it cannot be obtained. Verifies and submits ILL purchase on demand requests to supervisor.
- Maintains Borrowing and Document Delivery workflows by acting as a point of contact for the ILLiad Staff and Customization Managers; oversees maintenance of the Customization Manager which includes regularly reviewing and updating email templates, routing rules, and departments; oversees and implements regular updates to Custom Holdings groups/paths in ILLiad/OCLC, Borrowing and Document Delivery documentation, printable documents.
- Directly processes interlibrary loan lending and document delivery requests; this includes retrieving items from stacks, scanning articles, and loaning physical items.
- Provides exemplary direct customer service, including assisting with access to resources, and making appropriate referrals. This includes, but is not limited to, answering inquiries via phone, email, chat, ticketing system, and the like.
- During slow periods, directly contributes to accessioning and deaccessioning and inventory processes for the Collection Management Facility; provides routine reports on findings and offers solutions when requested by supervisor.
