Position: Outpatient Palliative Care Physician/ Associate Medical Director
Location: City of Binghamton

Overview

Position Details:
Outpatient Palliative Care Physician/Associate Medical Director of Palliative Care Services at United Health Services Hospitals, Johnson City, NY. UHS Palliative Care is recruiting for this role in the Outpatient setting. We are seeking both experienced candidates and new graduates.

Strong understanding of palliative care clinical models including design, business modeling, productivity, quality, experience, and equity. Experience with new program development or expansion is preferred but not required. Experience in clinical teaching is desired. Join an established team of physicians, nurse practitioners, social workers, and an Administrative Director in a focused, collaborative environment with mentorship and participation in Interdisciplinary Team Rounding.

Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive outpatient palliative consultations, evaluations, and follow-up visits. Perform physical examinations; interpret and evaluate diagnostic tests; identify clinical problems and formulate evidence-based care plans.
  • Manage complex symptoms (pain, dyspnea, mood, nausea, functional decline) with pharmacologic and integrative approaches.
  • Lead goals-of-care discussions and advance care planning in partnership with patients, caregivers, and referring clinicians; deliver patient-centered, values-aligned care in a team-based outpatient environment.
  • Participate in the Administrative Director’s initiatives to develop new outpatient initiatives, enhance service lines, and improve operational workflows.
  • Contribute to strategic planning, program expansion, and evaluation of palliative care clinical models (design, business modeling, productivity, quality, experience, equity).
  • Engage in regulatory readiness, quality improvement projects, and the development of clinical best-practice guidelines.
  • Serve as a clinical educator and supervise learners (medical students, internal medicine residents, family medicine residents, geriatric medicine fellows); participate in occasional clinical research as determined.
  • Participate in and become a member of the UHS Ethics Committee; perform other assigned clinical duties as determined by the Medical Director.
Qualifications
  • Board certified or eligible in Palliative Medicine, with a pertinent medical specialty (e.g., Internal Medicine, Family Medicine), and eligible to maintain New York State licensure.
Schedule

Monday–Friday, Outpatient-Focused (approximately 90% clinical / 10% Medical Director).

Compensation & Benefits

Salary Range: $280,563 – $300,000 annually. United Health Services offers competitive benefits including malpractice insurance and health coverage. Benefits details are provided per policy and eligibility.
