The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) delivers quality care consistent with the scope of practice outlined by the local state nurse practice act for Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurses. The LPN is responsible for tasks, activities, and functions as delegated and may assign duties to others within the parameters of the practice act. The LPN monitors patients under direction from the HSA, DON, RN, or Medical Director.

• Graduate from an accredited Licensed Practical Nursing program.
• Currently hold a valid Practical Nurse license in the state of employment.
• Maintain an active CPR certification.
• Remain knowledgeable of state laws and regulations governing nursing practice.
• Successfully complete initial and annual clinical competencies as required.

• Use a systematic approach to meet the health needs of each patient.
• Implement nursing care within the LPN’s scope of practice, complying with all applicable laws and practice setting requirements.
• Assist in developing and implementing teaching plans tailored to individual patient needs for health promotion, maintenance, and restoration.
• Provide wound care, including cleaning and dressing/bandaging.
• Administer medications to offenders.
• Provide care for multiple patients as directed by the Medical Director, DON, or Registered Nurse.
• Monitor vital signs and report changes to appropriate medical staff.
• Document actions in the Medication Administration Record (MAR) and medical records.
• Perform other nursing duties as assigned by the facility.
