Position Overview
The Sterile Processing Technician provides sterile instruments and decontaminated, safe equipment for patients of all ages under the supervision of a Patient Care Manager/Coordinator or Chief Technician. Responsibilities include cleaning, disinfecting, assembling, packaging, sterilizing surgical instruments, testing sterilization equipment, maintaining sterilization records, assembling surgical supplies, and distributing patient care equipment. The technician also verifies patient charges, orders supplies, and operates computer systems related to patient supply needs and charges.
Qualifications include a High School diploma or GED, knowledge of medical terminology, and certification within two years of employment. Preferred experience includes Central Service, OR Instrument/Supply, and computer entry. Physical demands involve standing, walking, lifting up to 30 lbs., and exposure to communicable diseases and fumes. Mental demands include sound judgment, accuracy, and emotional stability to handle high-stress situations. The role requires the ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and adapt to change.
