MGX Shop Crane Technicians are responsible for the inspection, diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of various crane equipment including mobile cranes and boom trucks. This position will be located at the Billings, MT branch and reports to the Service Manager.
Benefits- Sign‑on bonus $4,500 after 90 days continuous service.
- Tool Reimbursement Program up to $1,500 per calendar year.

- Operate and perform thorough inspection of cranes to diagnose defects.
- Diagnose, repair and troubleshoot various mobile hydraulic and lattice cranes; repair hydraulic and electrical components.
- Examine parts for damage or excessive wear using micrometers and gauges. Read, understand and interpret operating and parts manuals, blueprints and technical drawings.
- Test mechanical, electronic, electrical and hydraulic products and equipment after repair or modification to ensure proper operation and compliance with OEM specifications.
- Prepare for jobs by checking parts and drawings for accuracy and completeness.
- Perform thorough and accurate annual inspections.
- Properly fill out working reports, hours reports, time sheets, hours overviews and expense reports.
- Capable of accomplishing tasks independently without direct supervision.
- Provide excellent customer service.
- Other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED with a minimum of two (2) years of experience as a Crane Mechanic/Technician preferred.
- Experience working with different forms of mobile crane equipment, specifically Grove RT & TMS Cranes;
Grove GMK European Cranes;
Manitowoc EPIC and/or Traditional Cranes;
National Boom Trucks preferred. - Must be able to read both electrical and hydraulic schematics.
- Welding experience with AWS D1.1 certification, or ability to obtain certification within 3–6 months after hire preferred.
- Excellent communication skills with a customer/client focus.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record preferred.
- Basic computer skills preferred.
- Required to purchase full set of hand tools up to 1.5 inches.
- Perform job functions in a safe manner.
- Wear all Personal Protective Equipment (P.P.E.) required by Company policy for the job being performed.
- Know and follow established job specific and facility wide safety and health procedures and rules.
- Actively participate in safety and health training and demonstrate competency based on training received.
- Bring safety and health issues, unsafe acts, and safety suggestions to management’s attention or correct those you can.
This is a full‑time position with typical working hours between 7:00 am to 4:00 pm. Overtime and weekend work may be possible based on business conditions. The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The position requires occasional sitting, climbing, balance, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, and frequent lifting or moving of up to 40 pounds.
Working environment may expose employees to extreme temperatures, various weather conditions, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors and/or loud noises.
This position offers a pay range between $20.00 – $35.00 per hour depending on skills and qualifications. Pay is bi‑weekly. A customized training plan and career path is identified for each technician and provided within the first week of employment.
