Transportation Security Officer

Summary

Transportation Security Officers (TSOs) provide security and protection for travelers, airports, and aircraft in a courteous and professional manner. They may also secure high‑profile events, important figures, and any activity that impacts transportation systems.

The position is located at Billings Logan International Airport (BIL). Salary ranges from $44,315 to $56,844 per year, or $21.23 to $27.24 per hour, including locality pay of 17.06%.

• Operate screening equipment and technology to identify dangerous objects in baggage, cargo, and on passengers.
• Perform searches and screening, including physical interaction with passengers (e.g., pat‑downs, bag searches, lifting and carrying bags up to 50 lbs).
• Control terminal entry and exit points.
• Interact with the public, give directions, and respond to inquiries.
• Maintain focus and awareness while working in a stressful environment.
• Engage in continuous development of critical thinking skills and apply appropriate situational protocols.
• Retain and implement knowledge of Standard Operating Procedures, demonstrating responsible and dependable behavior.

• Physical agility to squat, bend, and lift and manipulate baggage, containers, and other objects up to 50 lbs.
• Walk up to 3 miles during a shift and stand for prolonged periods (up to 4 hours).

• U.S. Citizenship or U.S. National.
• Minimum age 18 at time of application.
• Selective Service registration required.
• Must pass structured interview, drug screening, medical evaluation, and background investigation.
• Subject to post‑employment random drug and/or alcohol testing.
• Availability to work various shifts, overtime, and travel as needed.
• Proficiency in English (reading, writing, speaking, comprehending).
• Mandatory travel for training; occasional travel may be required.
• Exposure to potentially lethal devices and dangerous chemicals is inherent in this position.

• At least one year of full‑time work experience in the security industry, aviation screening, or as an X‑ray technician.

• High school diploma, GED, HiSET, or TASC high school equivalency certificate.
