The City of Billings is seeking a Landfill Litter Control and Site Support Technician to coordinate the litter control activities at the landfill and perform a variety of semi‑skilled work involved in operation and maintenance of solid waste facilities, and containers. Duties may include work on the immediate grounds of the assigned facility and in the surrounding area, Duties require being observant of potential safety issues.
Salary Range: $21.1230 per hour. Salary reflects Step 1 of a 7-step pay scale. Salary at hiring will be dependent upon the applicant's education, experience, and training.
Work Schedule:
Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- Coordinate daily litter-collection activities at the landfill.
- Provide oversight and direction to Sheriff's Office work-detail participants during litter-abatement operations.
- Ensure work-detail participants follow safety rules, assigned tasks, and appropriate conduct standards.
- Perform litter pick-up alongside work-detail participants.
- Transport litter to landfill for disposal.
- Transport Sheriff's Office work-detail participants to and from designated pickup and drop-off locations using a City/County vehicle.
- Maintain clear communication with Sheriff's Office staff regarding schedules, attendance, and operational needs.
- Ensure vehicles are operated safely and in compliance with applicable policies and procedures.
- Perform light maintenance tasks when litter-collection work is not scheduled, including but not limited to General site cleanup, Fence and area inspections, and Minor facility upkeep.
- Assist with traffic control activities at the landfill, including directing vehicles and maintaining safe traffic flow as needed.
- Support landfill staff with other operational tasks as assigned.
- Follow all safety protocols, landfill rules, and operational procedures.
- Identify and report safety hazards, incidents, or behavioral concerns involving work-detail participants.
- Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Possession of a valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
- Experience in light maintenance or groundskeeping.
- Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions.
- Ability to perform physical labor, including walking in uneven terrain, bending, lifting, and carrying materials.
- Must be able to interact with staff and customers.
- Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug test.
- Ability to pass a criminal background check.
