OverviewWhere state and federal laws/regulations allow, accountable for performing day-to-day non-clinical pharmacy operations, administrative activities; ensures efficient pharmacy workflow and a positive patient experience. Serves as a full-time certified pharmacy technician.
Responsibilities- Operate pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions. Work under the supervision of a pharmacist, supervising pharmacy technicians and pharmacy cashiers within the guidelines of authorized company policies, laws, regulations and business ethics.
- Lead selection, scheduling, and development of pharmacy technician personnel. Manage training, coaching, and performance of pharmacy technicians. Make decisions regarding performance management including discipline and termination.
- Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services. Resolve customer complaints, respond to requests in a timely manner, and answer non-clinical questions to ensure a positive customer experience. Model and share customer service best practices.
- Develop strong relationships with customers by anticipating needs and proactively offering services to enhance the pharmacy experience. Focus on healthcare services to improve customer experience.
- Assist pharmacist in the delivery of patient care including patient registration, prescription data entry, preparation of medications, counting, and verification where allowed by law. Complete patient and physician calls under pharmacist supervision. Assist with healthcare service offerings including administering vaccines and health screenings where allowed by law.
- Exercise independent judgment within company policies, laws, and regulations to delegate, direct, and assign non-clinical work in the pharmacy. Ensure on-time task completion and maintain efficient workflow.
- Prepare and file reports and records required by the company and government agencies under the direction of the Pharmacy Manager or pharmacist.
- Manage core pharmacy workflow and drive excellence in operations. Coordinate daily schedule, recommend allocation of hours, and ensure the pharmacy is clean, neat, orderly, and stocked.
- Ensure compliance and execution of business administrative activities and inventory management not requiring pharmacist licensure; manage annual inventory preparation.
- Complete non-clinical patient calls and drive new technology/process rollouts. Champion change and engage the team in action planning. Maintain security safeguards and proper operation of pharmacy equipment; collaborate with the Pharmacy Manager on recordkeeping.
- Adhere to Good Faith Dispensing policies during all applicable prescription-dispensing activities and understand role in meeting Good Faith Dispensing requirements.
- Support asset protection; report concerns to the Pharmacy Manager to maintain security of the pharmacy.
- Communicate prescription errors to the accountable pharmacist and follow company policies regarding errors and the Continuous Quality Improvement Program.
- Ensure accurate processing of insurance claims to resolve issues and prevent rejections; follow up with insurers and providers and participate in third-party audits.
- Assist Store Manager and Pharmacy Manager in analyzing and improving pharmacy financials, operational quality, and customer service.
- Manage Community Outreach Portal; coordinate off-site immunization clinics and community events; build and sustain relationships with retail partnerships.
- Leads performance management of technicians, including decisions regarding discipline and termination. Apply constructive discipline policies to ensure compliance with state and federal laws; monitor attendance and timeliness; drive engagement and action planning.
- Oversee technician hiring, onboarding, training, and scheduling; monitor training completion and enforce scheduling/training policies.
- Identify knowledge gaps among team members and support training through hands-on coaching or learning modules.
- Monitor licensure, registrations, and certifications; verify status using company resources and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Ensure procedures for recruitment, record retention, and training comply with company policy and applicable laws.
- Maintain PTCB certification and ongoing professional development; pursue certifications and training as required by the company; participate in performance improvement plans as directed.
- Seek professional development by self-assessment, feedback, and leveraging mentorship and coaching resources.
- Communicate with the pharmacy team, relay messages from support centers, and participate in store/pharmacy meetings and weekly check-ins with the Store Manager.
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- PTCB or ExCPT certification (except in Puerto Rico).
- One year of work experience as a pharmacy technician in a retail or hospital setting.
