Working Title:

College of Engineering Non‑Tenure Track Faculty (Applicant Pool)

Brief Position Overview

The College of Engineering’s Multidisciplinary Engineering Design course is taught by faculty who bring real‑world experience into the classroom. These faculty members are expected to instruct and mentor student project teams through their first open‑ended, multidisciplinary design experience. Other responsibilities include advising and mentoring undergraduate students, participation in accreditation activities and committee assignments, and service to the University, State, and profession.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Advise, evaluate, and assist students.
  • Work with EGEN 310 instructional lead and instructional team to develop curriculum as needed.
  • Contribute positively and professionally to the academic success of students and the mission of Montana State University.

Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  • Relevant degree and experience in Engineering and/or Computer Science.

Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  • Relevant professional experience and insight into the theoretical frameworks of the field or discipline of teaching responsibility.
  • Currency in area of teaching responsibility.
  • Previous teaching experience.

Successful Candidate Will

  • Have a broad understanding of the design process.
  • Have the ability to mentor and inspire students from all backgrounds.
  • Possess excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Have the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues, students, and the engineering industry.
  • Have the potential to provide leadership and to assume responsibility for organizational and program activities.

Union Information

  • Position may be a Union position. Union affiliation is determined by job duties and the collective bargaining unit.
  • Any position that is 0.5 FTE or more is represented by the Associated Faculty of Montana State University (AFMSU). Faculty covered by AFMSU may choose to pay membership dues; this is a condition of employment.
  • Any position less than 0.5 FTE is not represented by the Union and is not required to pay dues.
  • If the FTE changes during employment, the representational status could be impacted.
  • Exceptions: faculty who have successfully completed a PEI exam or are working in Extension are exempt from the Union.
