Overview
Montana State University Billings seeks an Assistant Professor – Health Sciences & Human Performance to lead undergraduate teaching and student engagement in Outdoor Adventure Leadership and Health and Human Performance programs. The position is tenure‑track and offers a competitive salary subject to collective bargaining agreements.
ResponsibilitiesTeach undergraduate courses in Outdoor Adventure Leadership and Health and Human Performance, including in‑classroom and field‑based instruction that may involve extended field time, evenings, and weekends. Develop, maintain, and evaluate relationships with campus degree programs and external partners to provide skill‑specific experiential learning. Recruit, advise, and supervise students; provide service to the department, college, university, and community; and support outcomes assessment.
Required Qualifications- Master’s degree in Outdoor Adventure Leadership or a related field.
- Professional outdoor certification(s), including a current Wilderness First Responder (WFR).
- Demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching.
- Evidence of effective supervision of student experiential learning and professional development.
- Proficiency in outdoor skills such as backpacking, rock climbing, challenge course facilitation, and general backcountry travel.
- Logistics experience in outdoor/adventure learning (equipment purchases, maintenance, provider contracts).
- Strong collegial relationships and partnerships with off‑campus constituencies involved in outdoor/adventure education.
- Doctoral degree related to Outdoor Adventure Leadership.
- Record of scholarly activity.
- Success integrating an outdoor adventure degree program with related degree programs in exercise science, education, and related fields.
- Certifications in relevant technical skill areas.
