Position: Harvest of the Month Program Assistant - USDA Harvest of the Month Grant

Job Description

This role is grant-funded and time-limited, with hours scheduled on an as-needed basis to meet USDA grant deliverables and seasonal program demand. Responsibilities are programmatic and instructional in nature and do not include independent program leadership.

This role supports the delivery of Harvest of the Month nutrition and agriculture education programming in early childhood and elementary school settings. The individual assists with classroom lessons, hands‑on food demonstrations, and garden‑based activities while also supporting community outreach events such as farmers’ markets and partner‑led initiatives. Responsibilities include preparing instructional materials and mobile kitchen equipment, assisting with basic program documentation and data tracking, and collaborating with schools and community partners to ensure successful program implementation.

The position requires strong communication and organizational skills, the ability to build positive relationships with children and community partners, flexibility to work in classroom and outdoor environments, and a commitment to high‑quality community education and continuous improvement.

Experience

Experience in education, public health, nutrition, agriculture, community outreach, or youth programming preferred. Experience working with children or in classroom or informal education settings is a plus.

Education

The Harvest of the Month Program Assistant requires:

  • Some high school required
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Post‑secondary coursework or degree in education, public health, nutrition, agriculture, social services, or a related field preferred.
License/Certification/Registry

Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally as needed. Additional training or certifications related to nutrition or education may be required or provided based on program needs.
