Job Overview
Summer is quickly approaching and the City of Bozeman is looking to hire two Short-Term Workers to assist our Engineering Inspectors during the peak construction season. No prior experience is required, making this an excellent opportunity to gain experience learning and working in the construction field.
Work Hours & ScheduleThis is a 40‑hour/week position, and the schedule is Monday‑Friday from 8 am to 5 pm with an hour lunch. Ideally, this position will start on May 26th and end on August 21st, with some flexibility on either side depending on availability.

Assignment Details:
Not to exceed 90 working days or 520 hours, whichever comes first.
- Read and understand construction drawings and specifications.
- Perform inspections of City construction and improvement projects by visiting and documenting construction sites.
- Utilize City vehicles for transportation to and from construction sites.
- Prepare daily reports of construction materials, progress, means and methods using photos and writing.
- Report and document any non‑compliance issues to the project engineer.
- Respond to citizens’ questions and comments in a courteous and timely manner.
- Communicate and coordinate regularly with appropriate others to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of interdepartmental operations and activities.
- Perform other directly related duties as assigned.
- At least one year of formal training or education beyond high school in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Construction Management, or a closely related field is required.
- Some related experience in utilities or public works is preferred, but not required.
- This position requires operation of a company vehicle; candidates must be 18 years of age or older and meet all company driving eligibility requirements.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- Offers for employment are conditional upon satisfactory responses to an appropriate post‑conditional offer process.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and/or written policies, procedures, and instructions.
- Ability to communicate effectively with others, both orally and in writing, using both technical and non‑technical language.
- Ability to exercise self‑awareness and awareness of surroundings while present on busy jobsites.
- Ability to work well with supervisors, coworkers, professional partners, and the public.
- Ability and willingness to quickly learn and put to use new skills and knowledge brought about by rapidly changing information and/or technology.
- Ability to operate a personal computer using standard or customized software applications appropriate to assigned tasks.
- Ingenuity and inventiveness in the performance of assigned tasks.
