Overview

Rapiscan, an OSI Systems Company is seeking an Industrial Engineer, based out of Billerica, MA.

Rapiscan Systems, an OSI Systems, Inc. company, designs, manufactures and markets security and inspection systems worldwide. Our products are used to inspect baggage, cargo, people, vehicles and other objects for weapons, explosives, drugs and other contraband. Rapiscan Systems security and inspection devices can be found in a wide range of locations such as airports, border crossings, railway stations, seaports and terminals, government and military installations, and nuclear facilities.

The Industrial Engineer drives high-impact manufacturing projects that optimize processes to improve efficiency and reduce costs. This role leverages advanced engineering principles, data-driven insights, and lean methodologies to deliver innovative solutions that position our facility for next-generation manufacturing excellence.

Responsibilities
  • Process and Layout Optimization:
    Analyze current manufacturing processes and layout to identify waste and maximize throughput.
  • Project Leadership:
    Own cross-functional continuous improvement and CAPEX projects from scoping and ROI analysis to rollout, ensuring delivery on time and within budget.
  • Data Analysis:
    Monitor production metrics (OEE, cycle time, throughput), perform statistical/data mining (SQL, regression), and develop dashboards in Tableau, Power BI, or Excel.
  • Lean & Six Sigma:
    Apply advanced lean manufacturing and Six Sigma principles to reduce waste and variability.
  • Capacity Planning:
    Model and forecast staffing, equipment, and material needs to align with strategic growth.
  • Automation & Technology:
    Evaluate and implement automation solutions and advanced manufacturing technologies.
  • Documentation & Standards:
    Create and maintain process documentation, work instructions, and standard operating procedures.
  • Mentorship:
    Provide guidance and technical support to junior engineers and production teams.
  • Compliance:
    Ensure all processes meet safety, quality, and regulatory standards.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering or related field
  • 5+ years of industrial engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD (or similar layout software), simulation tools, and ERP systems.
  • Proven track record of factory consolidation, facility expansions, equipment upgrades, and CAPEX project execution.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification.
  • Demonstrated ability in reducing cycle time and production costs.
  • Implementation and Improvement in overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
Additional Qualifications (are a Plus!)
  • Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Certification
  • Experience with SQL, Tableau, Power BI, and regression/statistical analysis
  • Experience with Industry 4.0 technologies, IoT, or smart factory initiatives
  • Experience with heavy manufacturing and high-mix/low-volume environments.
  • Familiarity with sustainability initiatives and energy efficiency improvements
  • Experience with Agile and Microsoft D365
  • Experience with and/or exposure to ISO 9001 and 14001
