Manufacturing Engineer, Quality Engineering
This position will require you to develop, implement, and maintain methods, operation sequences and processes used in the manufacture or fabrication of parts, components, subassemblies and final assemblies. You will collaborate with design engineering on the release of new lens products. You will estimate manufacturing costs, calculate time standards, and make recommendations for tooling and process requirements for new and existing product lines.
Under ISO 9001:2015 certification and Global Trade Compliance policies, you will thoroughly maintain records and reporting systems for coordination of manufacturing operations. The work is engaging, combines creativity with detail, and electro-mechanical with theory. The work environment is mixed general office, lab, and manufacturing floor.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Development and improvement of processes for production of infrared lenses
- Create, review, and update assembly and test instructions and checklists meeting all regulatory and internal standards
- Evaluate product material & production defects and work corrective action with Quality
- Address out of flow material and support Production and Quality Manager
- Continuously improve processes, methods, equipment, tooling and training
- Cooperate with Equipment Maintenance and various vendors to optimize equipment and maintain productivity
- Train production technicians in new processes and intermittently audit established processes
- Engage with the mechanical/tooling design team to implement production improving devices
- Justify, specify, and procure new equipment as required to support development and production programs
- Implement Lean/5S manufacturing principals and techniques to maintain an environment of continuous improvement
- Work with the Engineering team to ensure that accurate specifications are used for product assessment and validation
- Environmental testing of opto-mechanical systems using thermal chambers and vibration
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in related technical discipline required
- 5+ years of related experience desired
- Basic competence with Solid Works or other mechanical design software
- Experience with imaging optical design principles a plus
- Experience with Infra optical systems and radiometry a plus
- Ability to develop assembly process documentation required
- Proficient computer skills, including but not limited to Word, Excel & Outlook required
- Ability to communicate clearly in written and spoken English required
- Lean/5S training and experience required
- Ability to stand for extended periods, often for half of the workday.
- Ability to lift, push, pull, or carry objects, often up to 50 pounds, though the frequency of lifting heavier objects varies.
