Our client, a manufacturer of capital equipment, is seeking a Project Mechanical Engineer to join their team in Billerica, Massachusetts. This role is open to early-career engineers (Level I) through senior-level engineers (Level III). You will lead R&D-driven projects from concept through production, typically managing 1–4 projects concurrently. The role requires strong mechanical aptitude, hands‑on design experience within complex manufacturing, and proficiency with 3D CAD to deliver reliable, high‑quality equipment.
This is a high‑visibility position within a well‑established, small organization with in‑house manufacturing.
- Design and document mechanical product solutions for customer applications
- Lead engineering projects through all phases to production release
- Develop and manage 3D CAD models and detailed drawings using Solid Works
- Gather and maintain product and project requirements with customers and teams
- Create and maintain drawings, BOMs, work instructions, and product manuals
- Partner with manufacturing and vendors from prototype to production
- Process engineering change orders for new designs and product updates
- Collaborate with manufacturing, service, and purchasing on customer orders
- Lead and participate in formal design reviews
- Plan and execute verification and reliability testing
- Track project requirements, schedules, and budgets
- Support NCMRs, CAPAs, and continuous improvement initiatives
- BS in Mechanical Engineering required
- 2+ years of mechanical engineering in manufacturing is required
- Proficiency with 3D CAD is required
- Strong knowledge of drafting, drawing, & document control standards is required
- Experience designing machine components, weldments, or sheet metal assemblies required
- Ability to work 100% on-site in Billerica, MA, is required
