Summary of Position: Do you have a strong interest in leadership, organization, and student success? Join the Admissions and Orientation Student Leadership Team and contribute to creating a positive and welcoming experience for prospective and incoming Ferris State University students. In this role, you will provide leadership and guidance to a team of student employees, supporting daily operations and serving as a point of contact within your designated functional area.
This position includes cross-training in Tours, Communications, and Orientation, with a primary focus in one area. The role is designed to promote collaboration, inclusivity, and professional development while supporting the university’s enrollment and transition efforts.
- Lead and mentor a team of student employees, fostering a professional, inclusive, and collaborative work environment
- Assist with onboarding, training, and ongoing development of student staff
- Create, manage, and adjust student employee schedules to ensure adequate coverage for daily operations and events
- Conduct regular audits and quality checks to ensure accuracy, compliance, and consistency with departmental standards
- Manage inventory, including tracking, organizing, and replenishing materials and supplies
- Serve as a primary point of communication between professional staff and student employees, relaying information clearly and effectively
- Lead and facilitate team meetings, trainings, and briefings to ensure alignment and preparedness
- Support the planning, coordination, and execution of admissions and orientation events, including summer and weekends as needed
- Oversee printing, processing, and distribution of materials related to admissions, tours, and orientation
- Assist with basic design and preparation of communications and materials in alignment with university branding standards
- Process forms, requests, and documentation accurately and in a timely manner
- Maintain professionalism and represent Ferris State University positively when interacting with prospective students, families, and campus partners
- Support cross-functional operations through collaboration with Tours, Communications, and Orientation teams
- Current Ferris State University student in good academic standing
- Demonstrated leadership experience, including the ability to lead, train, or mentor peers
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team
- Commitment to providing a welcoming, inclusive, and student-centered experience
- Reliability, professionalism, and the ability to serve as a positive role model
- Availability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and summer employment as required by departmental needs
