Overview

The Waterfront Director oversees Seacamp's programs, safety, training, and equipment that are in, on, and around the water. Seacamp is a unique nonprofit marine science education facility located in the Florida Keys.

Duties
  • A. Supervision of site as designated by the Director(s). (Operations Manager)
  • B. Maintain an awareness of the total camp situation at all times, making necessary reports to the Director(s) in a timely manner.
  • C. Assist with the opening and closing of each season.
  • D. Act as member of leadership team in supervision of staff.
  • E. Assist leadership team with staff meeting agendas.
  • F. Coordinate, implement and/or assist staff training with leadership training team.
  • G. Lead training sessions in risk management, including but not limited to, American Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR, First Aid, Oxygen Administration, and When Help Is Delayed, to insure safety of all participants.
  • H. Prepare waterfront policy reviews for leadership staff prior to each season.
  • I. Assist with seasonal training:
    • 1. Assist with the Planning and implementation of Captain's Workshop.
    • 2. Train and supervise waterfront instructors and assistants (sailing, board sailing, lifeguard training, canoeing, kayaking, water polo, etc.).
    • 3. Plan and implement lifeguard training, first aid and CPR classes and reviews for all staff.
    • 4. Supervise staff swims daily during pre-season.
    • 5. Plan and organize the waterfront emergency drill for staff with the Leadership Staff.
    • 6. Attend and lead other programs as assigned.
  • J. Work with Maintenance Director on waterfront maintenance, requisitions, and Harbormaster activities.
  • 1. Plan and supervise waterfront work crews during pre-season, season, and post-season.
  • 2. Inventory waterfront equipment before and after each season and keep accurate inventory during the course of each season (boats, PFD's, paddles, anchors, dive gear, snorkel vests, etc.).
  • 3. Assignments of boats for program.
  • 4. Coordinate use of staff boat on staff time off.
  • 5. Maintain destination records for daily use of boats.
  • K. Advise Ship's Store on purchases to be made relevant to Red Cross programs.
  • L. Coordination of waterfront programs.
    • 1. Maintain the budget including purchasing and maintenance of waterfront program supplies and equipment.
    • 2. Assist Program Specialist in scheduling waterfront staff.
    • 3. Supervise the Sailing/board sailing instructors.
    • 4. Upgrade waterfront programs and be familiar with the different agency standards.
    • 5. Plan and supervise camper swim tests on Orientation Day. (Summer camp)
    • 6. Work with the Head Unit Leader to organize waterfront activities for Visitor's Day. (Summer camp)
    • 7. Make sure that staff have filed certification reports with the American Red Cross and other agencies. Collect records from instructors and file them in the camp office.
    • 8. Camper awards and recognition related to the waterfront program. (Summer Camp)
    • 9. Evaluate waterfront instructors and programs during each session. (Summer Camp)
  • M. Coordination with the U.S. Coast Guard and Florida Marine Patrol as needed.

    Qualifications
    • A. Must have 2-5 years work experience, including experience in a supervisory position.
    • B. Must have graduated from an accredited college or university.
    • C. Must demonstrate initiative and leadership qualities, or demonstrate the equivalent in camp administration experience.
    • D. Must demonstrate exceptional enthusiasm and willingness to work with others in a leadership capacity.
    • E. Must have proficiency in basic computer skills and be experienced in keeping accurate records and generating reports.
    • F. Must hold current Instructor certification in ARC Lifeguarding, CPR/PR and First Aid.
    • G. Must have administrative and scheduling skills and experience in recreation leadership.
    • H. Must be an experienced boat operator (including sailboats and windsurfers) in ocean waters.
    • I. Must be a certified and experienced SCUBA diver.
    • J. Must be familiar with tropical marine environments, boat handling, and seamanship.
