This individual will be responsible for commissioning transmission and distribution substation additions or modifications to ensure they are installed, function, and are energized correctly. The role serves as a safety net to correct any errors introduced by incorrectly engineered design packages, installation errors, or equipment failures before the equipment is energized and released for service.
Ultimately the Commissioning Engineer prevents errors from compromising the reliability of the T&D system and the safety of employees involved in operating the system. Senior Engineers train new engineers/technicians in relay testing, equipment testing and substation commissioning.
