Job Summary
The City of Beverly Hills Police Department is seeking a highly motivated and qualified Civilian Investigator. The investigator will conduct complex, specialized investigations of financial crimes, property crimes, and crimes against persons for the Detective Bureau, providing broad investigative support for misdemeanor and certain felony investigations. The position is a two‑year limited‑term appointment, non‑sworn and does not carry a firearm.

Position OverviewThe Civilian Investigator performs complex investigations of misdemeanor and felony cases, including crimes against persons, property crimes, the High Tech Crime Unit (HTCU), and the Crime Impact Team. The incumbent will:
- Conduct investigations to detect or verify violations of law.
- Interview victims, witnesses, business and government representatives, and other stakeholders.
- Perform records checks, data searches, and digital forensic analyses.
- Prepare detailed investigative reports, court orders, warrants, and testimony.
- Coordinate with sworn officers, other law‑enforcement agencies, and the District Attorney’s office.
- Avoid direct suspect contact and arrest responsibilities; the role focuses on case resolution.
- Assist new or existing staff in learning departmental practices and maintain positive relationships with the public.
- Provide broad support to the Detective Bureau and serve as a civilian investigator.
- Review and complete crime reports; interview victims and witnesses by telephone and in person; produce supplemental reports.
- Examine records to secure or verify information on suspected violations.
- Contribute to routine checks or audits of businesses, pawnshops, secondhand dealers, and gun dealers.
- Utilize automated systems to research criminal history and crime trends.
- Gather, preserve, and report facts, statements, affidavits, and other evidence for legal or administrative actions.
- Analyze findings to determine warrant filing; prep investigation reports for prosecutors.
- Submit comprehensive investigation reports to the DA and review cases with the DA’s office.
- Prepare and review court orders, search warrants; file warrants and coordinate arrests with sworn officers.
- Testify in local, state, and federal courts as needed.
- Assist staff with departmental practices and procedures.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers, other city employees and the public.
- Foster an environment of diversity, integrity, trust, and respect.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Two (2) years of experience conducting civil and/or criminal investigations that involve collecting, analyzing, evaluating evidence, interviewing, and producing detailed investigative reports.
- Associate’s degree in criminal justice or a related field (waived if four (4) years of relevant experience).
- Valid California Class C driver’s license.
- Digital forensic certification is highly desirable but not required.
- Willingness and ability to work irregular hours, including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
