NURSE PRACTITIONER - CATH LAB
The St. Francis Heart Center eph’s Hospital, led by a team of world‑renowned interventional cardiologists, will give residents along Nassau County access to lifesaving cardiac procedures like percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). PCI uses a catheter to place a stent to open the heart’s blood vessels that have been narrowed by plaque buildup.
OverviewThe Center enhances our existing diagnostic catheterization program by offering immediate cardiac care to patients who present eph’s with a heart attack or other significant cardiac issue. St. Francis doctors will perform an intervention to open the artery through stenting when disease is discovered during a diagnostic catheterization. The capability to restore blood flow and save the heart muscle for patients within 90 minutes is critical.
St. Francis Hospital cardiothoracic surgeons, anesthesiologists, perfusionists and other interdisciplinary team members who have expertise in all types of heart surgery will support the St. Francis Heart Center eph’s Hospital.
- Master’s Degree in Nursing with specialization as a Nurse Practitioner and be certified by the ANCC or AANP organizations
- Prior experience in a cardiac catheterization laboratory or coronary care unit
- BLS and ACLS certification
- The NP will assist in collaboration with the physicians, Cardiology Interventionist, in providing assessments, diagnosis, care and treatment of patients in an inpatient cardiology setting and will document findings in a thorough progress note
- Review and implement admission orders and pre‑procedure orders / post‑procedure orders, participate in daily rounds and perform follow‑up tasks and act as a liaison between the Cardiology Interventionist, Nursing staff, unit‑based APPs and attending’s
- Assist Cardiologist with noninvasive and invasive procedures and may perform appropriate procedures independently when assessed to have adequate skill
- Understanding of implanted devices; pacemakers, defibrillators, and loop recorders
- Appropriate ordering of diagnostic tests and medications
- Receiving, interpreting, and communicating internal and external testing results
- Coordinate pre‑operative, post‑operative, discharge and follow‑up care to patients through written and verbal communication
- Manages and resolves pre/post catheterization complications with full documentation
- Rounds daily on pre/post cardiac procedural patients, examines and documents findings in daily progress notes in collaboration with the Cardiology Interventionist
- Coordinating admissions and/or transfers to other facilities
- Consult and coordinate with multidisciplinary team in formulating an appropriate patient plan of care
- Serves as a liaison and resource to the Cardiac Cath Lab, staff, and physicians
- Works with the Cardiac Quality Data Specialist to ensure ACC and NYS DOH reporting compliance is maintained; provides support to the Data Specialist as needed when able to complete ACC/NYS DOH reporting forms
- Direct clinical services for medically ill adult patients according to the established St. Joseph Hospital protocols and utilizes evidence‑based clinical practice standards under the supervision of an appropriately credentialed attending
- Provides safe, effective and compassionate patient care
- Devotes attention and resources to provide the best customer service possible; addresses patient medical problems in the absence of the patient’s attending of record, examines patients, assesses the patient’s physical condition, identifies signs and symptoms and gathers personal details to arrive at a plan of care in collaboration with the attending of record
- Participates in the medication reconciliation process on admission, discharge or when transfer of care to another provider or level of service and collaborates with Cardiology Interventionist on patient plan of care and coordination of documentation
- Documents patient plan of care by appropriate and prompt maintenance of medical records, orders, notes and timely signing of verbal and telephone orders
