Data Scientist, Research Scientist

HJF is seeking a Scientist I who will develop and conduct research projects related to regenerative medicine, physical medicine, and rehabilitation. The incumbent will support the National Intrepid Center of Excellence (NICoE) at Walter Reed Military Medical Center and the Military Traumatic Brain Injury Initiative (MTBI2).
HJF is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. Since 1983, HJF has linked the military medical community with federal and private partners.
Note: The position requires U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a Tier 3 (Secret) clearance.
Responsibilities- Lead small teams of researchers, establish collaborations, and solve technical challenges.
- Participate in the preparation of FDA filings and maintain interactions with external partners.
- Design and execute experiments and ensure completion of technical milestones.
- Contribute to group strategy, proposals, publications, and presentations at national conferences.
- Prepare technical updates, reports, and publications.
- Maintain state‑of‑the‑art knowledge of relevant technologies.
- Handle budgetary tasks such as planning and forecasting.
- Perform additional duties as assigned, including required training.
- Recommend employee hiring, disciplinary actions, and starting salaries; provide input on performance evaluations.
Education and Experience
- Doctorate degree required.
- 2–3 years of experience with MEG and/or EEG data recordings.
- Experience with MEG and/or EEG data processing and analysis using ICA and source reconstruction.
- Experience with MEG acquisition using Neuromag system and EEG acquisition using an EEG cap is a plus.
Skills and Abilities
- Thorough understanding of physics, mathematics, and physiology as applied to biomedical engineering.
- Knowledge of regenerative medicine and physical medicine & rehabilitation preferred.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and supervise others.
- U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain a T3 Secret clearance.
- Lifting materials up to 10 lbs.
- Primarily a clinical setting.
- Annual salary range: $73,800–$99,500, determined by experience and education.
