HJF is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow - Women's Health Research Program who is responsible for initiating and carrying out research projects in collaboration with a research team. Pursuits research along a focused line of inquiry and has a manuscript in development.
This position will be in support of the USU Military Women's Health Research Program Evidence Map Project. The Leveraging Evidence to Advance the Health of Military Women project's goals are to create a comprehensive evidence map of Active Duty Service Women (ADSW) health literature since 2015.
The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners.
HJF s support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.
Assists in designing and developing the systematic review and evidence map protocol, including defining the scope, research questions, inclusion/exclusion criteria, and search strategy, in collaboration with the research team.
Conducts, with supervision, comprehensive and systematic literature searches across relevant databases (e.g., Pub Med, Scopus, Embase) and gray literature sources to identify DOW women s health research published over the past 10 years.
Performs title and abstract screening, and full-text review, adhering to established eligibility criteria and documenting the selection process (e.g., using a PRISMA flow diagram) with supervision.
Develops and refines data extraction forms and systematically extracts key information (e.g., study design, population, interventions, outcomes, funding source) from included studies for charting and synthesis, with supervision.
Contributes to the development of an evidence map structure and visual representation to characterize the scope, volume, and characteristics of DOW women s health research.
Assists in the analysis and synthesis of the extracted data to identify research gaps, trends, and areas of high research activity.
Assists in preparing the drafting of the systematic review and evidence map manuscript for peer-reviewed publication.
Presents research findings to stakeholders, including the USU Military Women s Health Research Program, collaborators, and at national scientific meetings.
Assists in preparing progress reports, final reports, and other project documentation for the funding agency.
May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor.
- Doctoral degree in a health related field.
- Minimum of 0-5 years experience required.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of systematic review and/or evidence mapping methodologies (e.g., Cochrane, PRISMA standards).
- Knowledge of the scientific area, specifically military healthcare and/or women s health research.
- Understanding of publication processes for peer-reviewed journals.
- Research and analytical skills, including the ability to analyze and interpret complex data.
- Proficiency in conducting comprehensive literature searches using major bibliographic databases (e.g., Pub Med, Scopus, Embase).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for developing protocols, drafting manuscripts, and presenting findings.
- Meticulous attention to detail for data extraction, record-keeping, and quality control throughout the review process.
- Proficiency with systematic review software (e.g., Covidence, Rayyan) and data management tools (e.g., Excel, R).
- Ability to work under supervision, prioritize tasks, and manage a multi-stage, complex research project to meet deadlines.
- Ability to collaborate effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary research team.
- Ability to troubleshoot search strategies and data management challenges.
- Ability to synthesize disparate research findings into a cohesive and meaningful narrative and visual evidence map.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a T1/Public Trust clearance.
- Lifting:
Requires lifting materials up to 25 lbs. - Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.
This position is primarily telework and will require travel. Please note, the preferred candidate will reside in the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia) metropolitan area.
Compensation- The annual salary range for this position is $52,800-$78,000. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
