Overview
The role of the Director of Communications is to establish the communication strategy of the company and lead the team responsible for its execution. This includes managing a multi-channel approach to reach employees, customers, shareholders, and the public. The Director of Communications must effectively deliver messaging from the company to its intended audience while achieving accuracy, timeliness, and brand consistency.
Responsibilities- Media/External Relations: establish relationships with desired media outlets at the corporate and region/market/branch level; oversee the drafting and distribution of news releases; facilitate earned media coverage; oversee all media and public interactions between the company’s employees and external audiences; manage the process for company awards and recognition
- Social Media: lead the team responsible for the company’s social media channels that executes the management of the company’s social media accounts, key executive accounts, content creation, channel monitoring, and interactions
- Internal Communications: oversee and execute the company’s internal initiatives including communications from executive management, employee news, employee engagement and appreciation, and employee recognitions
- Corporate Communications: assist with the creation and distribution of corporate communications, including the annual report, board reports and presentations, ESG reports, DE&I reports, etc.
- Customer Communications: work closely with the marketing team on developing content and strategy to communicate effectively with various customer groups across various channels (email, mail, website, etc.), including new products and services, changes to products and services, etc.
- Plan, attend and execute internal and external events
- Attend internal market or departmental meetings as the communications director, contributing to strategic plans and introducing new projects
- Manage the productivity of communication plans and projects
- Monitor, review and report on all communications activity and results
- Present on behalf of the marketing and communications department
- Oversee the creative development of communication materials
- Manage partnerships with external parties (i.e. vendors and agencies)
- Conduct research and prepare reports related to results tracking, expenses and feedback
- Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in related area
- Minimum of eight (8) years communications/public relations experience required
- Minimum of two (2) years of previous experience managing staff required
- Previous working experience in a banking or financial industry preferred
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products required
- Experience with Adobe suite (level of proficiency dependent upon respective area) required

- Sufficient dexterity of hands and fingers to efficiently operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other computer components.

- Ability to pull, push and carry items.
In Bethesda, Maryland, the expected base pay salary range for this role is $165,818 - $290,182, placement within the range will be determined on an individualized basis commensurate with experience and skills and is only one part of the total compensation package. Your base salary may be subject to an annual merit increase based upon performance and, depending on the position, may be eligible for cash bonuses, long-term incentives, commissions, and other United Bank sponsored benefit programs.
