The Stage Director (otherwise known as Technical Director) for a high school theater program is responsible for the overall execution of the scenic, lighting, sound, and rigging designs for all school productions, ensuring they are built and operated safely and within budget. This role bridges the gap between the artistic vision of the Director and the practical construction process, overseeing the design realization through drafting, scheduling, and procurement of materials.
The TD serves as a mentor and educator, teaching students technical skills, shop safety, and professional stagecraft practices while supervising student crews in the construction, load‑in, performance, and strike phases of each show.
