The position supports the WRNMMC Directorate of Behavioral Health, Advanced Therapeutics Program, and involves serving as a study therapist in clinical trials and potential clinical implementation of novel and emerging psychiatric interventions, including a MDMA-Assisted Therapy (MDMA-AT) trial for service members with PTSD.
Responsibilities- Ensure the safety and protection of study participants.
- Serve as a study therapist, providing MDMA-AT and related non-drug therapy sessions (preparation and integration) and evaluations in compliance with protocol guidelines.
- Conduct comprehensive behavioral health evaluations and psychotherapy for study participants, with a focus on trauma-informed care and treatment-resistant PTSD.
- Monitor and assess participant safety, symptom progression, and therapeutic outcomes throughout the trial.
- Collaborate with Principal Investigators, study physicians, study therapists, and multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient care and research outcomes.
- Participate in study therapist meetings.
- Ensure regulatory compliance in accordance with study protocols and procedures.
- Training Development and Implementation
- In close partnership with a team of collaborators:
Develop study therapy manual integrating Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) with MDMA-AT (MDMA-ACT). - Develop and implement MDMA-ACT training program to include asynchronous training materials and up to a week-long in-person training for study therapist and team members.
- Review videos of open-label sessions to provide feedback to therapists and to update MDMA-ACT study therapy manual.
- Provide ongoing weekly consultation for study therapists.
Education and Experience
- Master's or Doctorate Degree in a health profession that allows for the provision of psychotherapy.
- Minimum of 9-10 years experience is required.
Skills And Abilities
- Experienced and proficient in providing psychotherapy in clinical practice.
- Technical skills to review and interpret electronic health records.
- Clinical risk management experience.
- Quality assurance.
- Independently licensed in Maryland to practice psychotherapy.
- Demonstrated expertise in training and implementing ACT.
- US Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a T3/Secret Clearance.
- 3+ years of clinical experience in behavioral health.
- Experience in clinical trials or clinical research involving FDA-regulated interventions.
- Familiarity with trauma-focused care, PTSD treatment, and/or novel psychopharmacology.
- Prior experience administering psychedelic-assisted therapy and/or IV ketamine therapy in approved settings.
- Knowledge of military culture and experience working with active duty or veteran populations.
- Strong documentation, organizational, and interdisciplinary collaboration skills.
- Licensure to practice medicine within the continental United States;
Board certified or board eligible for certification in the specialty associated with the clinical research program. - Must also be licensed to provide psychotherapy independently according to state or province and local requirements. Acceptable professional credentials include:
- Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
- Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)
- Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC)
- Licensed Mental Health Counselors (LMHC)
- Lifting:
Requires lifting materials up to 10 lbs. - Ability to sit in a chair with and without a computer for prolonged periods.
- This position will take place primarily in a hospital or clinic setting.
- The hourly pay range for this position is $48.32 - $89.71. Actual hourly pay will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
Employment with HJF is contingent upon successful completion of a background check, including verification of references, previous employment, education and credentials, a criminal background check, and possibly a DMV check. Any qualifications to be considered as equivalents require prior approval of the Chief Human Resources Officer.
