Overview

Stone Ridge is seeking an Upper School English Teacher to cover classes starting in August 2026.

Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart, a member of the international Network of Sacred Heart Schools, is a Catholic, independent college preparatory school for girls, Grades 1-12, with a co-educational Early Childhood Program, Pre-Kindergarten, and Kindergarten in Bethesda, Maryland. With over 780 students, and rooted in the Goals of Sacred Heart education, Stone Ridge inspires young women to lead and serve, through lives of purpose that integrate faith, intellect, community, social action, and personal growth in an atmosphere of wise freedom.

The Upper School English Teacher is responsible for:

  • teaching Upper School English in alignment with the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart Education.
  • working closely with colleagues in the English Department and throughout the Upper School to create and update plans for content, quality, and continuity of curriculum.
  • collaborating with Learning Strategists, Librarians and Educational Technologists to develop strategies to support all students.
  • working with the Counseling staff in supporting social-emotional programming.
  • attend all faculty and employee meetings, fulfill other faculty duties, and maintain good communication with families about student progress.

The department is looking for a scholar with speciality in either American Literature or World Literature, teaching potential classes like Introduction to Literature & Composition, Literature of the Americas, and possibly a Senior English Elective (one per semester) on a topic or genre that is global in scope.

  • possesses a Bachelor’s degree in a related field; a Master’s degree is preferred.
  • has a strong commitment to students and the ability to motivate and educate in an engaging manner,
  • demonstrates a thorough knowledge of the subject area and a collaborative, collegial spirit.
  • is familiar with Understanding by Design as the School’s pedagogical approach to instruction and demonstrate strong writing and communication skills, a capacity for organization and follow-through, and flexibility.
