Alaska Village Electric Cooperative (AVEC) is a unique electric generation and distribution cooperative, serving 59 communities across Alaska. Our operation spans 46 small, isolated grids relying on a mix of diesel, wind, and solar generation to power 11,513 meters and maintain 515 miles of distribution line.

What does a Journeyman Lineman do?

As a Journeyman Lineman at Alaska Village Electric Cooperative, you will play a crucial role in enhancing the lives of our Members through reliable electric utility services. You will organize, direct, and perform essential construction work on-site to support our diesel generation and distribution systems. Your expertise will shine as you respond swiftly to outages and emergencies, ensuring that power is restored promptly to our valued customers.

You will identify and correct operational issues while conducting maintenance and repairs on our distribution systems and power plants, all while adhering rigorously to safety protocols to protect yourself and your team. As a representative of AVEC, maintaining positive relations with the Village Council and Member-Owners is essential, fostering their understanding and confidence in our core values, mission, and goals. Would you be a great Journeyman Lineman?

To excel as a Journeyman Lineman at Alaska Village Electric Cooperative, you should possess a robust skill set and relevant qualifications that align with our operational needs. A minimum of five years' experience in electrical power distribution is essential, with a preference for candidates who have worked in rural Alaska due to the unique challenges of the environment. You must hold a Journeyman Power Lineman certification from the State of Alaska and have successfully completed a lineman apprenticeship program, demonstrating both your technical prowess and commitment to the craft.

Additionally, a high school diploma or equivalent is required, along with a valid driver's license.

Proficiency in using specialized tools and software related to electric utility work is also necessary, allowing you to efficiently respond to operational issues and ensure the smooth functioning of our distribution systems. Knowledge And Skills Required For The Position Are

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in electrical power distribution
  • experience in rural Alaska preferred.
  • Journeyman Power Lineman with the State of Alaska.

  • Valid driver's license.
