The Yukon‑Kuskokwim Health Corporation is a Tribal health‑care organization serving nearly 30,000 people living across rural southwest Alaska in villages with populations from about 10 to more than 1,000. Position Summary

Under the direction of the Safety & Security Supervisor, the Security Trainer will mentor, train, and educate new Security Officers and Security Monitors. The role includes conducting all new departmental orientation and ensuring hiring documents are taken care of. Secondary responsibilities include initiating safety & security job duty roles and coordinating performance improvement initiatives and training within the security program. The trainer will also attend YKHC emergency management training and perform other tasks as directed.

Responsibilities

Security Trainer will conduct mentorship and training to all new Security Officers and Security Monitors to ensure they can perform Safety & Security Officers (I) roles and responsibilities. The trainer will also mentor and train existing Security Officers I and II and monitors as needed.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Protect the life and property of all persons on YKHC premises, patrol buildings and grounds to prevent fire, theft, and vandalism.
  • Secure, unlock, protect, and patrol YKHC buildings (interior/exterior).
  • Use surveillance equipment, access control points, and alarms, and physically patrol designated areas on foot.
  • Periodically tour the assigned facility to identify irregularities, observe protection and fire control equipment, uphold order, and enforce regulations.
  • Follow procedures and respond to all fire drills.
  • Deter crime and be a first responder for emergency and non‑emergency situations.
  • Write activity logs and reports, recording daily events and illegal activity.
  • Respond to all YKHC codes, emergency preparedness events, incidents, and provide traffic control.
  • Provide excellent customer service and phone etiquette.
  • Work closely with law enforcement and fire department, maintaining peace and reporting unlawful activity.
  • Maintain the organization’s stability and reputation by complying with legal requirements.
Position Qualifications
  • Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent; some college coursework preferred.
  • Minimum Experience: 3–5 years as Safety & Security Officer, Supervisor/Trainer, or Law Enforcement.
  • License, Certification, Registration: Current, valid Alaska driver’s license; current CPR certification (or obtain within 90 days of employment).
  • Equipment/Tools: Work with office machines (multi‑line telephones, computers, copy machines, etc.).

    Skills:

    Basic use of email system and report writing.
  • Specialized Knowledge and

    Skills:

    Fluency in English and Yupik (oral & written preferred). Ability to calculate figures and amounts using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
  • Application

    Skills:

    Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written, oral, or diagram instructions.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to stand and/or walk for up to 12 hours; availability for recall during 24‑hour operations.
  • Other: Capable of following complex instructions; other duties as assigned.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities: Mentor, train, and educate new Safety & Security staff to their job positions.
