Travel RN - Med​/Surg

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an outpatient ambulatory care position in Alaska requiring an active AK RN license and strong med/surg skills.

Job Details

• Position is in an outpatient ambulatory care setting in a remote Alaskan location,

• Work schedule is Monday through Friday, day shift,

• Patient care covers the lifespan from birth to elderly,

• Role includes responsibility for both adult and pediatric medication administration,

• Required to use medical equipment such as EKG and cystoscopy as appropriate,

• Training orientation takes place on Tuesday and Wednesday of the first week,

Job Requirements

• Active Alaska RN license in good standing required,

• Graduate of an NLN-accredited nursing program,

• At least 2 years of RN experience required,

• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required for duration of assignment,

• Must provide documentation of required nursing competencies (IV/central line site care, fall precautions, age-specific care, abuse/neglect, pain management, blood transfusions, etc.),

• Ability to pass a math test covering medication calculations for adults and pediatrics upon arrival,

• Proficient oral and written communication skills,

• Competency in basic nursing skills, knowledge of medical terminology, and use of EKG,

Additional Information

• Responsibilities include assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care,

• Expected to supervise unit secretaries and PCTs in collaboration with the Charge Nurse,

• Care delivery requires consideration of age-specific and cultural needs,

• Hospital housing provided in shared units with private bedrooms; male or female units only, no dogs permitted,

• Flight reimbursement for economy-level fare provided; detailed flight and luggage receipts required for reimbursement,

• Flight itinerary must be submitted one week before start date; facility will assist with airport pickup upon arrival,

• Position is located in a remote environment with hospital-provided housing as the primary recommended option,
