The Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation is a Tribal health care organization, serving nearly 30,000 people living across rural southwest Alaska in villages with populations from about 10 to more than 1,000. Bethel, the regional hub and location of the only hospital in the region, has a population of nearly 7,000. The Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta is home to thousands of lakes and two primary rivers—the Kuskokwim and Yukon.

The Staff Physician shall be committed to contributing to the Mission of the Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation, “to achieve the greatest possible improvement in the health status of the people of the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta region of Alaska.” The Staff Physician is an employee working under the supervision of the Medical Director who is, in turn, supervised by the Clinical Services Administrator. Acute, chronic and well care of complex pediatric specialty patients is expected.
The Pediatric Group manages approximately 1200 chronically ill patients and over 1000 well children of mainly Yup’ik Alaskan descent with significant respiratory and infectious disease issues. Manage asthma, aspiration syndrome, chronic lung disease, and premature issues related to prematurity. There is a high incidence of congenital heart disease, congenital adrenal hyperplasia, ADHD, fetal alcohol syndrome, cerebral palsy and seizure disorders.
Stabilize, manage, and transport critical care and neonatal emergency patients and occasionally fly on medevacs to villages. Assist pulmonology, neurology, genetics, cardiology and endocrinology sub-specialists during Bethel pediatric specialty clinics and occasional visits to village clinics.
- Provide acute, chronic, and well care within pediatric specialty areas; support the Pediatric Group in management of chronic and acutely ill patients.
- Stabilize, manage, and transport critical care and neonatal emergency patients; participate in medevac operations as needed.
- Collaborate with sub-specialists (pulmonology, neurology, genetics, cardiology, endocrinology) during clinics and in village clinic visits.
- Must have completed an accredited medical school.
- Must have completed a residency training program and be board eligible or board certified (unless specific exception is made) by the appropriate board of the American Medical Association or the American Osteopathic Association.
- Must have Alaska State License and DEA License.
- Must have computer skills needed to access computerized medical records.
- Needs the skills and knowledge to practice medicine in the area of their specialty.
- Ability to supervise medical students, residents, physician extenders and community Health Aide clinical practice.
