Position Summary
Position Summary: The Staff Physician shall be committed to contributing to the Mission of the Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation, “to achieve the greatest possible improvement in the health status of the people of the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta region of Alaska”. The Staff Physician is an employee working under the supervision of the Medical Director who is, in turn, supervised by the Clinical Services Administrator.
PositionResponsibilities
- Provides medical care to patients, whose care is entrusted to the Physician, doing so with the Corporate Mission in mind and in conformity with the administrative policies, procedures, and protocols of the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta Regional Hospital.
- Serves YKHC loyally, diligently, and effectively at all times to exert his/her best efforts to promote the success of YKHC. The Physician shall devote time, energy, and ability to the interest of YKHC, and to the discharge of duties and responsibilities in an efficient, trustworthy and businesslike manner, and shall not do anything that would impair or prejudice the name or reputation of YKHC.
- Engages in the outreach health care activities of the Hospital/Sub-Regional Clinic to the villages of the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta, including radio medical traffic, village trips to provide medical services, rotations, through or permanent work at SRCs, and emergency Medevac flights to patients in the villages.
- Participates in hospital-based patient care including inpatient care, outpatient clinic, emergency care and call; and, in accordance with published guidelines, in quality assurance and other medical staff activities, assisting and advising YKHC programs in areas of the Physician’s expertise.
- Accepts membership on staff committees as assigned and participates in the activities, deliberations and decisions of those committees within the best interest of the patients, the Corporation and the Medical Staff.
- Collaborates, mentors and supports the work of Midlevel Providers, including fulfilling collaborative physician requirements for the Alaska State Board.
- Contributes to the training programs of Medical Students and Residents who are accepted into the training program for clinical rotations at the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta Regional Hospital.
- Shares, in conjunction with other Medical Staff members, in the scheduling to ensure necessary services for providing health care to the population of the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta region are available; duties and work schedules will vary but shall be comparable over time to other full-time clinical physicians.
- Completes administrative tasks consistent with providing appropriate medical care to assigned patients, including timely completion of medical records.
- Abides by the Medical Staff By-Laws, policies and procedures.
- Exhibits a professional, gracious, warm and caring manner with patients.
- Accepts additional (emergent or urgent) patients when necessary.
- Accepts or returns phone calls and pages (if applicable) in a timely manner.
- Takes initiative to resolve patient and/or personnel problems at point of service or through appropriate lines of authority in a constructive manner.
- Provides and documents high-quality patient care.
- When on call, is available in a timely manner and responds with a courteous and professional attitude.
- Will be expected to comply with requirements for PA-C State Licensure when assigned as a collaborative physician.
- Must have completed an accredited medical school.
- Must have completed a residency training program and be board eligible or board certified (unless specific exception is made) by the appropriate board of the American Medical Association or the American Osteopathic Association.
- Must have or be able to obtain an Alaska State License and DEA License.
- Must have computer skills needed to access computerized medical records.
- Needs the skills and knowledge to practice medicine in the area of their specialty.
- Ability to supervise medical students, residents, physician extenders and community Health Aide clinical practice.
