Systems Engineer, Installation Technician
Summary/Objectives
The Field Engineer serves as the lead installer on job sites, providing technical leadership, project execution, and mentorship. The primary responsibility for this role is to deliver, install, configure, test, and maintain a variety of Audio Visual (AV), Physical Security (cameras, access control, alarms, and various other product lines), Network, and Fiber cabling systems. This role requires excellent customer-facing communication and professional presence as you represent Velocity1 onsite with clients.
Most work is performed at customer locations in the mid-state region, with occasional travel to neighboring states to support remote offices. The Field Engineer must be comfortable working on ladders and lifts and handling heavy equipment (e.g., large-format displays, racks, speaker cabinets). In some cases, the Field Engineer will coordinate and work alongside 1099 contractors and third-party installers, ensuring all work meets Velocity1 standards for quality, safety, and compliance.

- Lead and execute successful installations of AV, Security, Networking, and Fiber systems in accordance with Velocity1 standards, project scope, and timelines.
- Serve as the onsite technical authority, ensuring system designs are implemented accurately, optimized, and fully functional.
- Drive to customer sites and oversee the delivery, staging, and handling of equipment.
- Perform and lead structured cabling installations, device mounting, rack buildouts, terminations, labeling, and cable management.
- Configure, program, and commission systems, including AV control, DSP, video routing, camera deployments, access control controllers, and basic network switch configurations.
- Conduct system testing, validation, and commissioning; generate and submit required documentation and test reports (e.g., fiber certifications).
- Communicate clearly with customers and stakeholders, set expectations, and provide end-user training and quick-start documentation as needed.
- Coordinate closely with Project Managers, Solutions Architects, vendors, and internal teams; proactively identify risks and elevate issues or change orders.
- Mentor, direct, and assign tasks to Field Technicians; verify workmanship, documentation, and safety compliance meet Velocity1 standards.
- Oversee and verify work performed by 1099 contractors and third-party installers, ensuring quality, safety, and adherence to Velocity1 specifications.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe job site, including proper waste disposal and final site polish.
- Safely operate lifts, ladders, and tools; rig and lift heavy equipment using proper techniques and safety procedures.
There are no supervisory responsibilities for this position. However, the engineer will be the lead on projects, supervising field techs, and contractors.
Work EnvironmentThis job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers. It will also require ongoing training to be able to support new technologies.
Physical DemandsThis job requires frequent driving to customer locations, working on lifts and ladders, and regularly lifting equipment over 50 lbs.
Position Type / Expected Hours of WorkRegular work hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 to 5:00 with a 1-hour lunch break. There will be occasional overtime needed, including evening and weekend hours required as we accommodate our customers’ requirements. Employees will be expected to report to their local respective office as this is not a remote work position.
TravelThis position will require up to 50% travel, including possible overnight stays when needed. Generally, travel will be throughout the Southeast, within the 9 states that Velocity1 operates in.
RequiredEducation and Experience
This position requires a bachelor’s degree. Educational requirements can be supplemented by experience. This candidate should have a minimum of 5 years of experience in a technical field.
